On 22 July, the Neurological Council of WA was proud to host our World Brain Day Neurological Summit, bringing together clinicians, researchers, service providers, government representatives, people living with neurological conditions, carers and community advocates to recognise this year’s World Brain Day theme, Brain Health: Access for All.
Held at Fraser’s Function Centre in Kings Park, the breakfast summit provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of brain health, raise awareness of neurological conditions and discuss the actions needed to improve access to diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, care and support across Western Australia.
The morning featured a Welcome to Country from Emeritus Professor Dr Len Collard, opening remarks from Hon. Meredith Hammat MLA, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Preventative Health, and insightful presentations from Professor Merrilee Needham and Dr Linda Friedland, who shared their expertise and perspectives on neurological health, care and the importance of prioritising brain health across the lifespan.
We extend our sincere thanks to our speakers and guests for contributing their knowledge, leadership and passion to the conversation. We are also grateful to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. The strong turnout highlighted the collective commitment across Western Australia to improving outcomes for people living with neurological conditions and ensuring brain health remains a priority for our community.
World Brain Day is a reminder that brain health affects every aspect of our lives and that access to care and support should be available to everyone, regardless of where they live or the challenges they face. Together, we can continue to advocate for greater awareness, stronger prevention, earlier diagnosis and more equitable access to neurological services and support.
Thank you for all who joined us as we celebrated World Brain Day 2026 - together, we're working towards a future where brain health is valued, protected, prioritised and accessible to all.
