Consumer and Carer Advisory Committee

Your Lived Experience Could Help Us Shape Neurological Care and Advocacy in WA
The Neurological Council of WA Consumer & Carer Advisory Committee (CCAC) is designed to incorporate lived experiences of individuals affected by neurological conditions to enhance neurological health advocacy, services, and supports in Western Australia. The committee aims to inform the Neurological Council's activities including nursing, system navigation, education, and advocacy for neurological conditions.
What is the purpose of the Neurological Council of WA Consumer & Carer Advisory Committee (CCAC)?
CCAC will share personal and practical insights and experiences about living with a neurological condition that will help inform the development of neurological health and disability advocacy, services and supports in WA. These insights will also inform the activities of the Neurological Council of WA, which provides neurological nursing, system navigation, clinical education and clinical advocacy for people living with neurological conditions.
What is the eligibility criteria?
The main requirement for this role is lived experience of a neurological condition, whether as a patient, carer or family member. You will be asked to contribute your thoughts, perspectives and personal experiences within a group setting. It is important that you feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and participating in discussions.
Who makes up the CCAC?
CCAC will consist of 8-10 ‘consumers’ from the WA community with lived experience of a neurological condition. Each appointment will be for a maximum term of 2 years to ensure a broad range of neurological community voices. We encourage diversity and are looking for people with any neurological condition to apply. We also encourage carers or family members who bring lived experience to inform our work. Unsuccessful applicants will have the option to participate in other consumer involvement activities if they indicate a willingness to do so in their application.
What time commitments are required?
CACC will meet approximately four times each year for 2 hours. Occasionally, there might be some pre-reading. Meetings will be held at The Niche Building (Nedlands) or a combination of in-person and on-line meetings to facilitate involvement from regional members and members with mobility challenges.
Will I be paid?
We will provide honorarium payments for your time to attend meetings in line with the Health Consumers Council guidelines which is $37.50 per hour
